Ten is the inaugural studio album by American rock band Pearl Jam, released through Epic Records in August 1991. The band formed following the breakup of their previous group Mother Love Bone in 1990, when bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard recruited guitarist Mike McCready. The group initially recorded a five-song instrumental demo with Matt Cameron on drums, which was later shared with drummer Dave Krusen and vocalist Eddie Vedder during their auditions. Many album tracks originated from instrumental compositions or earlier Mother Love Bone material that Vedder subsequently developed with new melodies and lyrics.
