The Skatalites
The Skatalites are a Jamaican ska band who emerged as pioneers of the genre during the early 1960s. Active from 1963 to 1965, they recorded influential tracks that defined the ska sound, most notably "Guns of Navarone." Beyond their original material, the group served as session musicians for numerous Jamaican artists, providing instrumental backing for Bob Marley & The Wailers' debut single "Simmer Down" and collaborating with Prince Buster. After disbanding, the Skatalites reunited in 1983 and have continued performing, cementing their legacy as foundational figures in Jamaican popular music.
