Hank Williams composed and performed this country music song in 1952, which has since become recognized as one of the genre's most significant standards. Williams created the song while traveling from Nashville to Shreveport with his fiancée, quickly dictating the lyrics to Billie Jean Jones after referring to his first wife Audrey Sheppard in unflattering terms. The recording took place at Castle Studio in Nashville during what would be Williams's final recording session.
