The 4-Skins are a punk rock group from East London, formed in 1979 by Gary Hodges (vocals), 'Hoxton' Tom McCourt (guitar), Steve 'H' Harmer (bass) and John Jacobs (drums). Operating within the oi! and punk rock genres, the band gained recognition for their raw, confrontational style. Their lyrical content frequently addressed social issues including inner-city hardship, police brutality, political corruption, war and joblessness. While some songs explored violent themes, the band maintained these reflected lived experiences rather than advocating aggression. The group disbanded in 1984 but reunited with reformed line-ups in 2007 and 2008, sustaining their influence on punk and oi! music.
