The song was composed by Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister during his time with the English space rock group Hawkwind. Kilmister subsequently recorded the track with his own band, Motörhead, which he named after the song itself rather than adopting his original choice of Bastard, following guidance from his manager at the time.
