The B-52's are an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in October 1976. The original lineup featured Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson, and Keith Strickland. The group became known for their energetic blend of new wave, punk, and dance-rock influences. Following Ricky Wilson's death from an AIDS-related illness in 1985, Strickland transitioned from drums to lead guitar, allowing the band to continue their career. Throughout their history, the B-52's have incorporated various auxiliary musicians in their studio recordings and touring arrangements, maintaining their distinctive sound across multiple decades.
