Frank Loesser composed this popular song, which was published in 1955. It was created specifically for Samuel Goldwyn's 1955 film adaptation of the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls, where it appeared as one of three newly written songs by Loesser not featured in the original stage production. In the film, Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons performed it as a duet. Frankie Laine's cover version achieved significant commercial success, reaching the top position on the UK Singles Chart in 1956.
