The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul, and R&B ensemble led by patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples, who established the group alongside his children Cleotha, Pervis, Mavis, and later Yvonne. Performing under the shortened name Staple commercially, the family-based outfit maintained an active recording and touring career from 1948 through 1994. They achieved widespread popularity during the 1970s with hit singles including "Respect Yourself," "I'll Take You There," "If You're Ready," and "Let's Do It Again." The group's repertoire blended gospel traditions with soul, R&B, and rock influences, earning them enduring prominence within American popular music.
