The Seldom Scene
The Seldom Scene is an American bluegrass ensemble established in 1971 in Bethesda, Maryland. The group's founding members were John Starling (lead vocals and guitar), Mike Auldridge (Dobro and baritone vocals), Ben Eldridge (banjo), Tom Gray (double bass), and John Duffey (mandolin), with the latter three contributing harmonies. The band released their debut album, Act I, in 1972, followed by Act II and Act III the following year. Known for their progressive approach to bluegrass, the Seldom Scene helped define the genre's evolution during the 1970s and beyond.
