Peter, Paul and Mary was an American folk group that emerged in New York City in 1961 during the height of the folk music revival. The trio comprised Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. Their performances featured a diverse mix of traditional folk songs, original compositions by Yarrow and Stookey, early works by Bob Dylan, and pieces from other prominent folk-revival artists including Pete Seeger. The group remained active for nearly five decades, becoming influential figures in American folk music until their disbandment in 2009.
