Sarcófago was a Brazilian extreme metal band that emerged in 1985, pioneering a distinctive sound blending thrash, death, and black metal elements. The group was led by Wagner Lamounier, who later became known as the original vocalist of Sepultura, alongside guitarist Geraldo Minelli. Operating throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, Sarcófago became a significant force in Brazil's underground metal scene, contributing to the country's growing reputation as a breeding ground for aggressive metal innovation. The band remained active until 2000, leaving behind an influential legacy in South American extreme metal.
