At The Gates is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. The group emerged as a central force in developing the Gothenburg Sound during the mid-1990s, alongside contemporaries Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. Their 1995 album Slaughter of the Soul became a defining work in Swedish death metal. After disbanding in 1996, the band reunited in 2007 and has remained active since, releasing four further studio albums between 2014 and 2026, solidifying their legacy in extreme metal.
