Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band that emerged from Merseyside in 1978, founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. Pioneering figures in electronic music, the duo established themselves as Britain's first performing two-piece synthesizer outfit, merging minimalist experimentation with accessible pop structures to help define the synth-pop sound. Though the band's membership has evolved over the decades, McCluskey and Humphreys remain central to OMD's identity. The group became influential during the 1980s MTV era, gaining significant traction in the United States during the Second British Invasion while maintaining their standing as architects of the synth-pop genre.
