Russell Tyrone Jones, professionally known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, was an American rapper born in 1968 who became a foundational figure in hip-hop. As a core member of Wu-Tang Clan, the influential New York collective formed in 1992, he helped shape the sound of East Coast rap. Beyond his group work, Jones established himself as a solo artist, releasing Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version in 1995. He distinguished himself through an unconventional vocal approach that blended rapid-fire rap with singing, complemented by profane and stream-of-consciousness lyricism. Jones remained active in music until his death in 2004, leaving a lasting impact on hip-hop aesthetics and the hardcore rap tradition.
