The New Power Generation
New Power Generation (NPG) is an American funk and pop rock ensemble that emerged in 1990 as Prince's primary backing band. The group remained integral to Prince's live performances and studio recordings throughout the 1990s and 2000s, contributing their expertise across funk, new jack swing, and contemporary R&B. After being succeeded by 3rdeyegirl in 2013, NPG reunited in 2015 to support Prince's final studio album, Hit n Run Phase Two, and again in 2017 for an international tour. In 2026, the band rebranded itself as the Minneapolis Sound All Star Band.
