Duran Duran are an English pop rock band originating from Birmingham, established in 1978. The group was initially created by keyboardist Nick Rhodes, guitarist John Taylor, and singer-bassist Stephen Duffy. Following a period of membership fluctuations, the classic lineup solidified in May 1980, comprising Rhodes, Taylor, vocalist Simon Le Bon, guitarist Andy Taylor, and drummer Roger Taylor. The band became prominent figures in the new wave and synthpop movements of the 1980s, blending electronic production with rock instrumentation and pop sensibilities. Their influence extended across multiple decades, establishing them as significant contributors to new romantic and alternative rock genres.
