Rick Astley is an English singer, songwriter, radio DJ and podcaster born in 1966. He rose to prominence in the late 1980s through his work with production trio Stock Aitken Waterman. His debut album Whenever You Need Somebody (1987) achieved global commercial success, selling 15 million copies and earning platinum certification in both the UK and US. The lead single "Never Gonna Give You Up" became a defining hit, topping charts in over 25 countries and claiming the 1988 Brit Award for Best British Single. The track dominated the UK chart for five consecutive weeks and was the year's best-selling single. His subsequent single "Together Forever" also reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, establishing Astley as a major figure in 1980s pop music.
