Ray Charles Robinson was an influential American singer, songwriter, and pianist active from 1930 until his death in 2004. Blind since childhood, possibly from glaucoma, he became known to peers as "Brother Ray" and earned recognition as "The Genius" for his innovative contributions to music. Charles worked across multiple genres including jazz, blues, soul, country, and gospel, helping to define the sound of 20th-century popular music. His distinctive vocal style and instrumental mastery established him as one of the era's most significant musical figures.
