Pam Tillis is an American country music singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress born in 1957. The daughter of country musician Mel Tillis, she initially pursued pop music in the early 1980s with Elektra and Warner Records before transitioning to country. Her career gained momentum after signing with Arista Nashville in 1989. She achieved her first top-40 country hit with "Don't Tell Me What to Do" in 1990, a track from her debut country album Put Yourself in My Place, which yielded five charting singles and established her as a notable figure in contemporary country music.
