The Marvelows

The Marvelows were an American soul group from Chicago, formed in 1959. Working with arranger and producer Johnny Pate, they secured a recording contract with ABC-Paramount and laid down four tracks for the label. Their single "I Do," originally composed as a performance warmup piece, achieved significant chart success when released in summer 1965, reaching number 7 on the R&B Singles chart and number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song gained further recognition through later covers by The J. Geils Band, including versions in 1977 and 1982, with the latter reaching number 24 on the Hot 100. The group remained active until 1964.
