This song was initially recorded by Julie Covington for a 1976 concept album titled Evita. It was subsequently incorporated into the 1978 musical production of the same name. The composition was created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice during their research into the life of Eva Perón, Argentina's first lady. The piece appears multiple times throughout the show, including at the beginning of both acts and toward the conclusion.

The song features Eva's spirit encouraging the Argentine people not to grieve for her, and also represents Eva delivering a speech from the balcony of the Casa Rosada and during her final broadcast.
