"Maybe" was written by Enrique Iglesias alongside Steve Morales, Kara DioGuardi, and David Siegel for Iglesias' second English-language album, Escape, released in 2001. Iglesias identified it as his preferred track from the album. In 2002, the album received a reissue that included a reworked version known as the "Mark Taylor Mix," which transformed the original piano-driven ballad into a slower, guitar-based arrangement. This remix was subsequently released as the album's fifth single.
