Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam were an American urban contemporary group and pioneering freestyle ensemble from New York City during the 1980s. The band featured vocalist Lisa Lisa (born Lisa Velez), guitarist and bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley, and drummer and keyboardist Mike Hughes. Assembled and initially produced by Full Force, the group blended synth-pop, swing, freestyle, and R&B influences throughout their active years from 1985 to 1991. They played a significant role in establishing freestyle music as a distinct genre within the New York music scene.
