Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam was an American urban contemporary group that pioneered freestyle music in 1980s New York City. The ensemble featured vocalist Lisa Lisa (born Lisa Velez), alongside guitarist and bassist Alex "Spanador" Moseley and drummer and keyboardist Mike Hughes. Assembled and initially produced by Full Force, the band blended synth-pop, swing, freestyle, and R&B elements throughout their career. Active from 1985 to 1991, they established themselves as one of the earliest freestyle acts to gain prominence during the era's vibrant hip-hop and electronic music scene.
