Lionel Hampton

Lionel Hampton was an American jazz vibraphonist, percussionist, and bandleader whose career spanned nearly a century. Born in 1908, he became a central figure in swing and big band music, collaborating with influential artists including Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, and Quincy Jones. His contributions to jazz were recognized with his induction into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1992 and the National Medal of Arts in 1996. Hampton remained active until his death in 2002.
