Genesis's debut studio album was released in March 1969 on Decca Records. The album originated from demos the band members recorded while attending school in 1967. Jonathan King assisted the group by naming them, securing publishing and record deals, and arranging studio time. A string section was later added to certain tracks by Arthur Greenslade. The drummer was replaced during the recording process.
