Muddy Waters recorded this blues song in 1950 as his own interpretation of "Catfish Blues," a Delta blues composition originating from 1920s Mississippi. A subsequent recording by Waters called "Still a Fool," made a year later and featuring identical arrangement and melody, achieved commercial success by reaching number nine on the Billboard R&B chart. The song has since been covered by numerous artists across different genres.
