The Kentucky Colonels
The Kentucky Colonels were an American professional basketball franchise based in Louisville, Kentucky. Operating in the American Basketball Association from 1967 to 1976, the team established itself as one of the league's most successful franchises, compiling the highest winning percentage and most victories in ABA history. Named after the historic Kentucky Colonel designation, the Colonels initially played at the downtown Louisville Convention Center before relocating to Freedom Hall in 1970. Despite their competitive success, the team ceased operations during the 1976 ABA–NBA merger and did not transition to the National Basketball Association.
