Joshua was a significant biblical figure who served as an assistant to Moses during the Exodus narrative. Originally named Hoshea, he was born in Egypt and belonged to the tribe of Ephraim. Moses renamed him Yehoshua, the name by which he became known in English tradition. Following Moses' death, Joshua assumed leadership of the Israelite tribes and guided them during their conquest and settlement of Canaan, as documented in the Book of Joshua. His transformation from aide to commander represents a pivotal moment in Hebrew biblical history.
