Alice in Chains' third studio album was distributed through Columbia Records beginning in late October 1995 on vinyl and early November in other formats. The record represented a continuation following their commercially successful prior effort from 1992 and marked the final studio work with their original lead vocalist before his passing in 2002, while also being the first album to include their bassist who had joined the band two years earlier.
