The Johnny Otis Show was an American musical ensemble led by bandleader and impresario Johnny Otis, born Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes. A pioneering force in rhythm and blues and rock and roll, Otis served as singer, musician, composer, record producer, and talent scout throughout his career. He was instrumental in identifying and launching the early careers of numerous artists who achieved major success, including Little Esther Phillips, Etta James, Big Mama Thornton, Jackie Wilson, and Hank Ballard. Often recognized as the "Godfather of Rhythm and Blues," Otis left an indelible mark on American popular music through his work as a performer and cultural tastemaker.
