Jon Pertwee was an English actor born in 1919 who became best known for his television work spanning several decades. He gained prominence as the third Doctor in the science fiction series Doctor Who, a role that defined much of his career. Beyond that iconic part, Pertwee demonstrated versatility in comedy and drama, notably playing the title character in the rural sitcom Worzel Gummidge during the late 1970s and 1980s. He also contributed to the long-running BBC Radio comedy The Navy Lark throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Pertwee's career extended until his death in 1996, leaving a lasting legacy in British television and radio entertainment.
