"Bang and Blame" was released as the second single from R.E.M.'s ninth studio album Monster in 1994 by Warner Bros. Records. The track achieved significant commercial success, becoming the band's final top 40 entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 where it reached number 19, and their last number-one hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It also became R.E.M.'s only single to top the Canadian charts and charted in the top 40 across multiple countries including Australia, the UK, and the Netherlands.
