Joe Cocker was an English rock and blues singer renowned for his distinctive gravelly voice and energetic live performances characterized by uninhibited physical expressiveness. Active from 1944 until his death in 2014, Cocker achieved international success primarily through interpretations of existing compositions, including "Feelin' Alright" and "Unchain My Heart." While many of his hit singles were covers, he also recorded original material throughout his career, frequently collaborating with songwriter Chris Stainton. His influential style bridged rock, pop, and rhythm and blues traditions, establishing him as a significant figure in British popular music.
