The song was composed by Nicholas Brodszky with words by Sammy Cahn for a 1952 musical film. Both Mario Lanza and Nat King Cole recorded separate versions released as singles in 1952. Lanza's version performed better commercially, reaching number 7 on the US Billboard charts and number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, where it remained in the top 12 for 24 weeks. Cole's version reached number 16 in the US and was later included on his album Top Pops.
