"What a Girl Wants" is a cover track on Christina Aguilera's 1999 debut album. The song was originally written by Shelly Peiken and Guy Roche as "What a Girl Needs" and first recorded by French artist Ophélie Winter in 1998 with French lyrics. After being pitched to RCA Records, the title was changed and Aguilera recorded her own version for her self-titled debut album.
