"What a Girl Wants" is a cover track on Christina Aguilera's 1999 debut album of the same name. The song was originally written by Shelly Peiken and Guy Roche as "What a Girl Needs" and initially recorded by French artist Ophélie Winter in 1998 with French lyrics. After being pitched to RCA Records, the title was modified and Aguilera recorded an English version for her debut studio release.
