The Ikettes

The Ikettes

The Ikettes were an American female vocal backing group active from 1960 to 1974, known for their contributions to pop, soul, and R&B music. Originating as a support ensemble for R&B duo Ike & Tina Turner, the group was formed when Ike Turner recruited members from an existing backing trio to record "A Fool in Love" after the originally scheduled vocalists were unavailable. The group typically performed as a trio, though occasionally expanded to four members. Following the success of that initial recording, Turner established the Ike & Tina Turner Revue and formally organized the Ikettes as their dedicated backing vocal unit, making them integral to the revue's sound and live performances throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.
