The Idle Race
Idle Race were a British rock band from Birmingham active between 1966 and 1972, working primarily in psychedelic and toytown pop styles. Though they cultivated a dedicated following during the late 1960s and early 1970s, the group remained outside mainstream commercial recognition. Idle Race is remembered as an important stepping stone in the career of Jeff Lynne and holds historical significance within the Midlands rock scene, bridging musical developments between the Move, Electric Light Orchestra, the Steve Gibbons Band, and Mike Sheridan & The Nightriders.
