The Housemartins
The Housemartins were an English indie rock group based in Hull, active from 1983 to 1988. Over their five-year run, they released two studio albums and a compilation, all achieving top-ten positions in the UK charts. The band became known for their six UK top-twenty singles, most notably an a cappella rendition of "Caravan of Love" that topped the charts in December 1986. Their songwriting characteristically blended socialist political commentary with Christian themes, distinguishing them within the alternative pop landscape of the 1980s.
