Greg Allman was an American musician and songwriter who became a central figure in Southern rock music. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, he later settled in Macon, Georgia, where he helped establish the Allman Brothers Band. The group became known for blending rhythm and blues with rock, jazz, and country influences. Allman composed several of the band's signature songs, including "Whipping Post," "Melissa," and "Midnight Rider." Beyond his work with the group, he maintained a prolific solo career, releasing eight studio albums. Allman passed away in 2017 from liver cancer.
