"Child of Mine" appears on Carole King's debut studio album, Writer, released in May 1970. The song had previously been recorded by Billy Joe Royal among other artists. King was transitioning from her successful songwriting career and involvement with the short-lived group The City. The album initially received limited attention but gained recognition following the success of King's subsequent album, Tapestry, in 1971.
