Glay is a Japanese rock band formed in Hakodate in 1988, with its stable lineup of vocalist Teru, guitarists Takuro and Hisashi, and bassist Jiro established in 1992. Initially rooted in visual kei aesthetics, the group gradually adopted a more understated appearance while building a diverse musical foundation spanning rock, pop, progressive rock, punk, gothic rock, electronic, R&B, folk, gospel, reggae, and ska. Their 1997 compilation album Review achieved five million copies sold, ranking as Japan's fifth best-selling album of all time. The band's 1999 concert at Makuhari Messe drew 200,000 attendees, setting a record for the largest single-artist ticketed event at that time. By 2008, Glay had sold approximately 51 million records, establishing themselves among Japan's top ten best-selling artists.
