"Rubber Ball" became an early 1961 hit for Bobby Vee on Liberty Records and established him as an international star. The song was recorded in August 1960 during a three-hour session at United Studios in Hollywood. It was created through collaboration between songwriters Gene Pitney and Aaron Schroeder at the Brill Building in New York. The track featured arrangement work by Ernie Freeman and session drummer Earl Palmer, and notably marked Vee's first experimentation with vocal overdubbing.
