The Five Blobs
Five Blobs were an American studio group assembled in Los Angeles in 1958 by session leader Bernie Knee (credited as Bernie Nee on recordings). Created specifically to record the title track for the Steve McQueen film The Blob, the ensemble performed a composition by Burt Bacharach and Mack David that showcased a prominent saxophone melody. Released on Columbia Records, "The Blob" became a notable hit, reaching No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1958. The song has since become a staple of Halloween-themed music compilations. The single's B side featured another Bacharach composition, "Saturday Night in Tijuana."
