The Firesign Theatre
Firesign Theatre was an American surreal comedy troupe that emerged on November 17, 1966, debuting in a live performance on the Los Angeles radio program Radio Free Oz. Throughout the late 1960s, they became fixtures on various Southern California radio stations, developing a distinctive approach to audio comedy and sketch performance. Between 1967 and 1976, they released fifteen albums and a single through Columbia Records, while also hosting three nationally syndicated radio programs. Beyond their radio presence, Firesign Theatre performed before live audiences and continued creating work across multiple labels, occasionally pursuing individual projects during breaks from group activity.
