Antoine Caliste "Fats" Domino Jr. was an American singer-songwriter and pianist from New Orleans who became one of rock and roll's founding figures. Born into a French Creole family, he signed to Imperial Records in 1949 and released "The Fat Man," widely recognized as among the first rock and roll recordings and the first to exceed one million sales. Domino's signature rolling piano style defined numerous hits throughout the 1950s, including "Ain't That a Shame" and collaborations with Dave Bartholomew and Lloyd Price. Between 1955 and 1960, he achieved eleven Top 10 US pop hits, with five records certified gold by 1955. Over his lifetime, Domino sold more than 65 million records worldwide, cementing his legacy as a transformative force in popular music history.
