"Torn" was written in 1991 by Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Phil Thornalley as a solo composition for Preven. Although it was recorded and performed live during this time, its first official release did not occur until 1993, when Danish artist Lis Sørensen released a Danish-language version titled "Brændt".
