"Kill the Poor" was released by Dead Kennedys in October 1980 on Cherry Red Records as their third single, with "In-sight" serving as the B-side. The track was subsequently re-recorded for inclusion on their debut album Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables that same year, with minimal sonic differences between versions. The B-side also appeared on a later compilation album in 1987, and an alternate "disco version" was recorded and released on a live album.
