The Edgar Winter Group

The Edgar Winter Group was an American rock band active from 1972 to 1975, founded by multi-instrumentalist Edgar Holland Winter. Winter performed as vocalist while also playing keyboards, saxophone, and percussion. The group achieved significant commercial success during the 1970s, producing two enduring classics that continue to appear frequently on classic rock radio: "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride." The band's sound blended rock, hard rock, blues rock, pop rock, progressive rock, and psychedelic influences. Winter, the brother of blues guitarist Johnny Winter, remains a notable figure in 1970s rock history.
